Am I too old to work from home?
The short answer is no — you’re never too old to work from home! Age is just another number. There are so many stories of people who accomplished great things after they switched careers in their 50’s.
In fact, just today I was reading Gary Vee’s book Crush It and he was talking about two older women that created a podcast talking about movies. They now make more than enough to cover their living expenses plus some. Do not let yourself use age as an excuse for not taking the leap to achieve your work at home life.
Reason 1: You can focus all your energy on your passions.
One of the most appealing aspects of any work-at-home job is the ability for you to focus on your passions. There are so many work-at-home job options available that you have the ability to choose something that interests you, and concentrate all your efforts into that one specific niche. This allows you to filter out what you don’t like and helps you remain happy and healthy. This process took me a while, but it was totally worth it.
Reason 2: You have control of your schedule.
Imagine never having to arrange time off to go to the doctor, to visit family, or to take an impromptu vacation. I sometimes even take a nap after lunch if I am ahead in my work. (Don’t tell anyone.) When you have the ability to control your own schedule, the stress of sick days and making arrangements with your bosses is gone.
Reason 3: What truly matters is your work ethic and the skills you bring to the table.
Answer these questions:
- Are you willing to work hard?
- Are you willing to stay consistent and keep at it, even when it’s hard?
- Are you willing to make mistakes and learn from them?
If you answered “yes”, then congratulations, you’re not too anything to work from home.
Being your own boss means there’s no one deciding if you’re too anything besides you.
So if you’re feeling like you’re too much (or not enough) of something, perhaps it’s time to identify where that is coming from and begin to work through it. Here are some questions I ask myself when I notice I’m limiting myself.
- Hmm, I wonder why I think that?
- How has it benefited me in the past to limit myself in this way?
- Does limiting myself in this way still serve me? If not, do I still want to continue doing it?
Our take
Regardless of your age or background, it comes down to making a decision. Are you the kind of person that can x, y, z? Then do whatever it takes to make it happen. What is possible is limited only by what you have decided is possible.
